Toothpaste and Pregnancy
We use toothpaste to clean and maintain the health of our teeth, gums and our mouth as part of our daily oral hygiene. Toothpaste acts as an abrasive which helps remove dental plaque, remove food particles between teeth and to reduce bad breath (halitosis). toothpaste also delivers active ingredients such as fluoride and xylitol to prevent dental and periodontal diseases, including caries.
During pregnancy, your body goes through major physiological changes and some of these changes can affect the mucosa ( lining) of your mouth, gums and teeth. Mothers-to-be need to look after their teeth extremely well as these changes can potentially lead to issues with the developing baby
During pregnancy, you may experience:
Because of all of the above, pregnant women tend to clean their teeth more regularly and use and absorb more toothpaste than usual. Therefore it is important that the toothpaste they use does not contain any ingredients that may be detrimental to their health and consequently that of the developing baby.
With neo'mum we have taken into account these changes and include ingredients that minimise potential problems arising from them. This is in addition to removing more common ingredients that potentially may be harmful during pregnancy and breastfeeding and replaced them with natural and proven-safe components. A number of our ingredients play multiple roles and thus a number of potentially harmful ingredients are removed at the same time.
Below is a table showing ingredients in standard toothpastes and where replacement is logical, the ingredients in neo'mum Pregnancy Toothpaste
